The role of the design committee is to get the downtown district into top physical shape. The Design Committee plays a key role in shaping the physical image of Main Street as a place attractive to shoppers, investors, business owners, and visitors. The committee’s goals include educating others about good design and preservation to enhance the image of each business as well as that of the district, providing good design advice that encourages quality improvements to private properties and public spaces, planning downtown’s development, and motivating others to make changes by creating incentives and targeting key projects.

3rd Wednesday of the month at 3:30 pm

The Organization Committee plays a key role in keeping the board, committees, staff, and program-of-work in good shape by attracting people and money to the organization. To succeed this committee must take responsibility for managing the financial and logistical aspects of the Main Street Program’s organization by raising money for projects and administration from donations and sponsorships, managing staff and volunteers by recruiting people, supervising them, and rewarding good work and promoting the program to downtown interests and the public. The organization committee also oversees the Passion & Pride Ball, which includes six sub-committees.

The job of the Marketing and Retail Strategies Committee (MARS – Known as Promotion Nationally) is to promote downtown as the center of commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors alike. The committee focuses on creating events that draw community members and tourists into the community and downtown, understanding the changing market, identifying downtown assets (including people, buildings, heritage, and institutions) to define downtown’s unique “position” in the marketplace and overall creating image campaigns, retail promotions, and special events to lure people downtown.

The job of the Economic Vitality Committee is to strengthen the businesses currently located in downtown and our community, identify new market opportunities for the traditional commercial district, find new use for historic commercial buildings, and stimulate investment in property. The Economic Restructuring Committee must develop a thorough understanding of the district’s economic condition and its best opportunities, focusing on incremental change that gradually improves the area’s economic foundation and eventually make large-scale investment possible. The Economic Restructuring Committee’s major responsibilities are strengthening existing businesses and recruiting new ones, learning about the district’s current economic condition and identifying opportunities for market growth and developing financial incentives and capital for building rehabilitation and business development.
